It’s a Hogwarts Summer!

To go along with our Hogwarts House Cup Teen Summer Reading Game, we have lots of Harry Potter programming throughout the whole summer! Here’s a glance of what’s to come:

Wandmaking
Monday, July 10 from 4 to 5 pm
Make your own wand to practice your spells and charms. Make it look like one of your favorite character’s, or create an original design!

Harry Potter LEGO Video Game Play
Friday, July 14 from 4 to 5 pm
Enjoy a casual afternoon of playing a LEGO Harry Potter video game with fellow Potterheads!

DIY Harry Potter Light Switch Cover
Wednesday, July 19 from 4 to 5 pm
Create a custom cover for the light switch in your room. Instead of On/Off, your cover will say Lumos/Nox. When signing up, please choose which kind of light switch you have!

Harry Potter Birthday Bash
Monday, July 31 from 4 to 5 pm
Celebrate Harry’s (And JK Rowling’s!) birthday with a party full of magical fun.

DIY Hogwarts House Banners
Tuesday, August 1 from 4 to 5 pm
Create a banner for the House of your choice that can be used to decorate your room.

Harry Potter Trivia
Thursday, August 17 from 4 to 5 pm
Think you know everything about Harry Potter? Test your wizard wits at this trivia game!

Yule Ball
Friday, August 25 from 4 to 5 pm
“The Yule Ball is first and foremost, a dance.” Don’t worry. You don’t have to dance unless you really want to! Enjoy refreshments and play games to celebrate the end of summer reading with this gathering of witches and wizards. Costumes are highly encouraged!

catanLooking for fellow settlers? How about new friendships to ruin? Join this monthly get together to play Settlers of Catan and please, try not to throw anything.

ApplePiRoboticsTeen Tech Tuesdays with Apple Pi Robotics
A six session series that is free and open to all students in grades 5 to 12. Come to one or come to all!

Intro to Robotics | Tuesday, July 11 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm
Meet Zippy, a Frisbee playing robot who you can learn to control! You will also learn the basics of LEGO Mindstorm NXT.

Fun with Fruit | Tuesday, July 18 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm
Create a battery out of fruit, see what happens when a grape meets a magnet, extract DNA from strawberries, and dye wool with fruit at this scientific session!

Intro to CAD and 3D Printing | Tuesday, July 25 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm
Learn how to design and print your own 3D item to take home.

It’s Electrifying! | Tuesday, August 1 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm
Create an electric motor and tiny spinning dancer and learn all about electrical circuits.

Intermediate LEGO Mindstorms | Tuesdays, August 8 and 15 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm
Explore more of how to build robots with LEGO Mindstorms in these two specialized classes.

Potterheads: A Harry Potter Club for Tweens & Teens – Back in September!

HPsymbolsJoin an alliance of Harry Potter fans, or “Potterheads”, to discuss all things Harry Potter! Take part in Harry Potter activities and games, discuss the books and movies, make wizardly crafts, and more!

The club will meet every 4th Tuesday of the month from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.

Potterheads will take a break for the summer and be back in September!

Free and open to all students in grades 5 to 12. Please register.

FanFic Fridays

fandomsDo you write stories about your favorite fandom? How about your favorite band? Do you like writing in general, but find it hard to know where to start? Join FanFic Fridays! Share your creative writing with your peers, geek out, and gain some inspiration from fellow fandom lovers.

Next meeting: Friday, July 21 from 4 to 5 pm

Free and open to all students in grades 7 to 12. Please register.

Gaming: Guilford Gamers

gamecontrollersJoin a club of fellow gamers! Play games on the Library’s Xbox One or Wii, or bring your own gaming equipment to set up. Hang out and play and talk all things video games, tabletop games, PC games, and more.

This group will meet monthly on the first Friday.

Free and open to all students in grades 5 to 12. No registration required.
