ljohnson-noteststoentry-2In 2020, the college admission landscape is rapidly changing, and standardized testing is no exception. Many wonder if the role of SAT and ACT in college admissions is shrinking, and if so, what parts of the college application are gaining in importance in return.

In this presentation, Mindy Popp and Sarah Sexton will explore a few possible outcomes for testing in 2020 – from testing-as-usual to widespread cancellations – discuss what a “normal” testing timeline might look like, and evaluate the impact of widespread test-optional and test-blind policies. Then, we’ll discuss how other aspects of the application such as essays, recommendations, community service, jobs, and other responsibilities can be crafted into an ideal package with or without test scores. Though the role of testing in admissions in the upcoming years remains uncertain, you will leave with a clear understanding of the different possible outcomes for testing and how you can use each outcome to your advantage.

Sarah Sexton is the president of Sexton Test Prep & Tutoring, a family-run test preparation company of 20 employees located in Dover, MA, in Metrowest Boston. Sarah has been with the company since 2011, and she directs all of the company’s classroom programs and school partnerships, oversees much of the tutor team, and implements major company initiatives. Sarah Has a Master’s Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, and prior to working with Sexton Test Prep, she worked in the Student Affairs offices of Northeastern University and Babson College.

Mindy Popp, the managing director and principal consultant of Popp & Associates, LLC, has worked in various positions with college and secondary school students, including college counseling, college admissions and financial aid, residential life, teaching and advising for 20+ years.
