The 2008 Michael L. Printz Award goes to Geraldine McCaughrean’s adventurous novel The White Darkness. This is the first graphic novel to be recognized for this award.

dangerous adventure when her uncle becomes obsessed with
seeking Symme’s Hole, an opening that may lead to the center of
the earth.
The Printz Award is given for excellence in young adult literature.

Alex Awards 2008
The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18. The winning titles are selected from the previous year's publishing.
This year’s titles are:

Teens were encouraged by the Young Adult Library Services Group (YALSA) to vote for their favorite young adult books during Teen Read Week from the official nomination list posted online at the Teens’ Top Ten site.

Elysium Literary Magazine
Elysium is the literary magazine of Adams Middle School in Guilford, CT.
Guilford Free Library has been collaborating with Adams Middle School by hosting weekly meetings of the Elysium Literary Magazine student group in the library. We have invited local authors, writers, journalists, graphic designers, photographers, editors, and artists to give presentations to the students: Sandi Kahn-Shelton, Michele Hughes, Kay Kudlinski, Julie Brown, Janice E.S. Offredi, Leslie Connor, Brendan Loughlin, Mary Norris, Sue Walden, and Emily Walzer.
