Connecticut Digital Library

offers access to a variety of resources which can be searched all at once or individually. Search 25 million full-text popular & scholarly articles from 4,000 publications. You can also search over 400 Connecticut library catalogs (reQuest). To access, please have a Connecticut library card number ready.

If you are doing research at home (outside the library), you will be taken to the ICONN (Connecticut Digital Library) sign-in screen. You then have to enter your Connecticut library card number and then you are connected to the selected databases directly. Academic OneFile – NEW – is the premier source for peer-reviewed articles
from the world’s leading journals and reference sources offering extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the
Arts, literature and other subjects.

Access Science – NEW - online version of the McGraw Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology, with “research updates” of new trends in science and technology, latest Science News headlines, biographies of scientists, definitions of scientific and technical terms, links to websites, bibliographies, learning resources, study guides, animations, image galleries, weekly Q&A. To access, please have your Guilford library card number ready.

Associated Press Photo Archive Database – search contemporary and historical photos, graphics, audio and text, covering over 160 years of history. You can access over two million photographs dating back to 1826 and as current as a few months ago, over 50,000 textbook quality graphics, over one million audio clips dating from the 1920’s, and over two million news stories and headlines dating from 1997.

Business & Company Resource Center – provides current company and industry information and analysis as well as coverage of major business events and trends from 1983 to the present.

Connecticut Digital Library (iConn)  - offers access to a variety of resources which can be searched all at once or individually. Connecticut History Online – a collection of Connecticut related images of people, places and other subjects, from the early 19th to the mid 20th centuries. 14,000 images, online learning tools for middle and high school students, find images by geographic locations based on a clickable map.

Connecticut’s Community Resources database (2-1-1 Infoline) – 6,000 health and human services providers, 16,000 sites, 52,000 service sites. If you do not find the service you need, you can dial 211 from anywhere in Connecticut and speak to a specialist, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 211 Infoline is a partnership of United Ways and the State of Connecticut.

Discovering Collection  - for Middle School and up. Information about people, places and events, essays, critical analyses, biographies, timelines, primary source documents, and multimedia files. Areas of study: geography (cultures and countries), literature, history, science and health.

Encyclopedia of Connecticut History – provides topical surveys, info on historic figures, Connecticut politics and government, period listings.

Expanded Academic – for High School and College students, periodical articles covering all academic areas. Sources include popular magazines and scholarly journals.

Gale Virtual Reference Library E books – search 18 full-text e-books covering business, history & social studies, medicine, science & environment. There are also links to e-books on the web. New ebooks: “Encyclopedia of Espionage, Intelligence and Security”, “Encyclopedia of Population”, “Fashion, Culture and Costume”, “Renaissance: an Encyclopedia for Students”, “UXL Encyclopedia of Landforms and Other Geological Features”.

General Reference Center Gold – general magazine and journal articles, plus reference book articles from sources such as “Asimov’s Chronology of Science & Discovery”, “Great Thinkers of the Western World” and “Masterpieces of World Literature”.

Hartford Courant Historical - search the earliest years of the Hartford Courant from the first issue published in October 1764 through 1922. Find articles and images that relate to Connecticut and national history.

Health & Wellness Resource Center – find reliable consumer and alternative health information from journals, magazines and newspapers. Also has videos, a medical dictionary, encyclopedias and other reference titles (Medical and Health Information Directory, PDR Family Guide to Health and Nutrition, PDR Family Guide to Prescription Drugs, Statistical Record of Health & Medicine)

Healthnet: Connecticut Consumer Health Information Network – various resources on health and medical issues, compiled by the University of Connecticut Health Information program. To get answers to your medical questions, contact Healthnet at the University of Connecticut Health Center Library, Tel. (860)679-4055.  Experienced medical information professionals will research a medical topic for you and provide you with a free customized packet of information based on your specific needs. 

Heritage Quest – search U.S. federal censuses, family and local histories, and primary source documents such as tax lists, city directories, and probate records. Materials date back to the 1700s.

Historical New York Times - Search the New York Times full-text online (1851-2001).To access, please have your Guilford library card number ready.

History Reference CenterNEW – full text access to more than 1,500 reference books, encyclopedias and non-fiction books, full text articles from 100+ leading history periodicals, such as: America’s Civil War, American Heritage, Archaeology, etc. 58,000 historical documents, 43,000 biographies of historical figures, 12,000 historical photos + maps, 80+ hours of historical video.

InfoTrac Junior Edition – for middle school students, magazine articles and curriculum-related materials selected specifically for grades 6-8. Titles include American History, National Geographic for Kids, Science News and Sports Illustrated for Kids.

InfoTrac Kids InfoBits – for elementary students, magazine articles and curriculum-related materials selected specifically for grades K-5. Titles include Boy’s Life, Ranger Rick, Faces, and Jack & Jill.

InfoTrac OneFile - largest full-text collection of articles from magazines, newspapers, academic journals and trade publications. Titles include: Consumer Reports, Prevention, Forbes, Atlantic Monthly, National Geographic, and Popular Science.

Informe! (Revistas an Espanol) a collection of Spanish / bilingual magazines and newspapers including Siempre, Semana and La Opinion. Search in either English or Spanish.

Legal TracNEW – indexes over 875 titles including major law reviews, legal newspapers, bar association journals and international legal journals. It also contains law-related articles from business and general interest titles.

MedlinePlus - A service from the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. Search for information from health-related government agencies and organizations. Includes a medical encyclopedia and dictionary; clinical trials, drug information and Spanish-language materials.

Something About the Author – illustrated biographical articles on children's authors and artists (about 70 in each volume). The series covers more than 10,000 individuals, ranging from established award winners to authors and illustrators who are just beginning their careers. Entries cover: personal life, career, writings and works in progress, adaptations, additional sources and photographs. Also available is a cumulative author index, published in odd-numbered volumes.
