Awards Season!

Several teen book awards were recently announced:
The Michael L. Printz Award is given to a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature. This year's recipient is Libba Bray for her novel Going Bovine.

The Alex Awards Are Given to 10 adult books with teen appeal.

Cooking with Katie: Thursday June 25, 11:00 to 12:30
Join Katie Wilton for a hands-on cooking class where students will make recipes from her cookbook including Pizza Wontons, Parmesan Pita Trianlges, and Yogurt Fruit Shakes.

Nutmeg Book Discussion: Wednesdays July 1-July 29, 12:00-1:15. Join us for Pizza&Pages. We'll discuss the books over a lunch of pizza.

Book Award Buzz

Several book awards have been announced recently. The William C. Morris YA Debut award began this year. It honors a debut book published by a first-time author writing for teens and celebrating impressive new voices in young adult literature. The first ever recipient of this award is Elizabeth C. Bunce for her novel A Curse Dark As Gold.

The Printz Award went to Melina Marchetta for her novel Jellicoe Road. The Print Award honors a book that exemplifies literay excellence in young adult literature.

The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults. The winning titles are selected from the previous year's publishing. The 2009 Alex Award winners are:

Cooking Class a Success!

18 participants joined us to learn some cooking skills and recipes from Katie Wilton, of Cooking With Katie. We tasted cream cheese filled strawberries, parmesan pita triangles, pizza wontons, berry smoothies, and deviled eggs. Yum! All of these recipes can be found in Ms. Wilton's cookbook, You're the Cook! Bon Appetit!

Cooking Program for Teens at the Library!

Need something to do during April vacation? Come to a cooking class at the Guilford Free Library. On Tuesday, April 15 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. cookbook author Katie Wilton will be leading participants in a hands-on cooking class. You will make snacks such as pizza wontons, parmesan pita triangles, and yogurt fruit shakes. You will get to sample all of the food you make!

Katie will be selling copies of her book You're the Cook! for $13.95.
