Book Award Buzz

Several book awards have been announced recently. The William C. Morris YA Debut award began this year. It honors a debut book published by a first-time author writing for teens and celebrating impressive new voices in young adult literature. The first ever recipient of this award is Elizabeth C. Bunce for her novel A Curse Dark As Gold.

The Printz Award went to Melina Marchetta for her novel Jellicoe Road. The Print Award honors a book that exemplifies literay excellence in young adult literature.

The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults. The winning titles are selected from the previous year's publishing. The 2009 Alex Award winners are:

Finding Nouf by Zoe Ferraris
The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti
